Court orders RUSAL to pay 291 mln rbl for environmental damage

MOSCOW, Oct 4 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Urals Federal District Arbitration Court has ordered to recover 291 million rubles in favor of the Federal Service for Natural Resources Oversight from Russian aluminum producer RUSAL’s Urals unit SUAL for negative impact on the environment, a spokesman for the service told PRIME on Monday.

“The court has announced a … decision to satisfy the claims of the … service for recovery of debts on payment for a negative impact on the environment from the Siberian-Ural Aluminum Company (SUAL, RUSAL’s unit) in the amount of 291 million rubles,” the service said.

The lawsuit was first initiated by the watchdog in 2018 and had to go through several hearings and appeals before the final verdict.
